Two upcoming summer camps providing opportunities for students

June 2024

Two upcoming summer camps in July for VNF Build a Future Scholarship Program recipients will enhance their educational experiences.

On 19 and 20 July, 15 students from the Lớp Học Tình Thương Philanthropic School will travel to Baria-Vung Tau for an outdoor recreation based summer camp. These very disadvantaged students will experience the wonders of a range of outdoor recreation and team building activities. This will be a new experience for most and will enhance their overall education experience. The VNF provides scholarships to this school recognising the significant disadvanarge of the families involved.

Between 26 and 28 July, 34 scholarship recipients from Le Quy Don High School, in Dong Ha, Quang Tri Province and Quoc Hoc High School, in Hue City will undertake an employability skills summer camp in Da Nang. The purpose of the camp is to internationalise student experience and expose them to 21st century global employment skills. Students will hear expert speakers, participate in workshops, make a documentary, and become immersed in innovation and entrepreneurship experiences. The program is in English which will assist build the bi-lingual proficiency of the scholarship holders. Above all it will be ‘learning through experience’.

Both workshops are being organised by the VNF with the Rotary Club of Saigon and the One Million Lives Rotaract Club.

VNF received funding from The Navitas Foundation to develop the portal. Similar to portals in Australian tertiary colleges, it contains purpose built and third-party learning resources. In addition, the learning portal facilitates student-to-student and student-to-tutor contact in a controlled environment. The materials include:  interpersonal, innovation and entrepreneurship and employability modules. Students also have the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world application projects, with tutor support, and present their findings at intensive residential camps.

These camps are one of the highlights of the VNF calendar. The Build a Future scholarship program is an exciting new way that VNF is building capability in Vietnam through improving the educational outcomes of poor students.”

Ken Ho-le, VNF’s Build a Future Director

The outcomes of the camps will be widely publicised by VNF in August.
